Nakayama Maruka Lv 5 w/ Matched Shohonyama Awasedo Nagura

This Nakayama Maruka is both hard and fine grain which makes it an excellent finisher for razors. The resulting edge shaves very smooth and irritation free.

This is a full size stone, wide enough to accommodate the full length of a western style straight edge blade! It is long enough to make steady and smooth passes.

The sharpening feeling is super smooth and it cuts more of less depending on the application of pressure.

Using a nagura will cushion the effect of the stone. I have included a fine Shohonyama nagura that is a good fit with this stone for razor finishing. This nagura will allow you to bridge from a lower grit stone and gradually finish the edge (as the slurry is progressively diluted with water) for the ideal smooth shaving result.

The stone has color waves of warm yellows and oranges over a blue green. Many refer to this as Asagi color. It has textures of nashiji (pear skin). Overall, very eye catching and unique.

The colors are more intense when the stone is wet. It is shown both wet and dry in these photos.

The maruka stamps on each end and are faint and can be seen clearer when the stone is wet.
